New Year resolutions tend to fail

new year resolutions

Every year over and over we diffuse the sadness of the new year and its challenges by setting exciting goals for ourselves. Humans are very good at tricking themselves to help them cope with negative emotions and divert the attention to something else.

Personally, I have never made any conscious New Year resolutions because it is a gimmick. Yes, that's my opinion. Why set goals only now? The what does it leave us with for the rest of the year? Every friend I have talked to agrees that the current generation has surpassed the New Year's resolution tradition just as the world we live in tends to change so quickly, in a blink of an eye, therefore, some of the goals you have made will become obsolete.

Please don't get me wrong, I am not saying that we should not set goals and achieve them, not at all. What I am saying is, not now, not as a diversion from something else that is causing us post-holidays blues. I really like this article that clearly sums up all the key points on this issue.
