My Top Secrets For Ultimate Cabin Beauty
When I fly I always make sure to bring my skin care essentials even if it means having to downsize to travel sizes. Here is a list of my absolute favourite carry on travel essentials for a long haul flight.
Water
Low humidity levels caused by planes’ filtration systems draw moisture from your body quickly, which can lead to dehydration. When flying, I try to skip the wines and coffees and drink plenty of water to avoid water retention and puffiness. But if you’re prone to swelling you can apply a stimulating blend of eucalyptus and cypress essential oils to your skin to keep your circulation active during long flights.
Cleanser
I remove all of my makeup as soon as I board the plane. It’s great to have something to do during the tedious stages of departure. When cleansing my face, I generally avoid alcohol-based moisturizers and makeup remover wipes, as they dry out my skin and fail to remove all traces of makeup.
Your skin is most vulnerable during the cleansing stage, so if you let it dry out, you lose some of the effectiveness that you would normally receive from using a moisturizer afterwards. I normally use Glacial Melting Cleanser as part of my everyday skin care routine as I love its high oil and water composition, which leaves my skin feeling nourished after every use. This formula’s unique gel-like texture is perfect for using during flights. Unfortunately, travel sizes are not available yet so I just carry a few sample sachets.
Facial Mist
I use a mist spray to prepare my skin for my serum and my face mask. I like Trilogy’s Hydrating Mist Toner. This formula contains rose, geranium and lavender, which keeps my skin hydrated and helps soothe any redness or irritations caused by the dry environment of the cabin.
Serum
I always take my antioxidant serum on long haul flights to protect my skin from free radical damage and the dehydration caused by the lack of oxygen in recycled cabin air. Peak Strength AM Serum-Shot is one of my go-to flying essentials. This peptide, vitamin-rich formula revitalizes my skin, while strengthening and restoring it. It sinks in nicely after every application, leaving my skin moist but not wet.
Moisturizer
The combination of dry cabin air and airborne bacteria is fertile ground for breakouts, so I always make sure to apply a moisturizer while flying. I normally use Raw Nurture PM Treatment. This formula contains sodium hyaluronate, the sodium salt of hyaluronic acid. This makes it a powerful humectant that attracts and holds on to water, making it the ultimate skin moisturizer.
Face Mask
Applying a face mask during flights can be fun and leave your skin feeling smooth and hydrated. You could try a sleeping mask that rubs in like a moisturizer and doesn’t require any rinsing. One of my favourite face masks for travel is Eminence Linden Calendula Treatment. This organic formula contains linden blossom and calendula, which helps restore elasticity and moisture, as well as revitalising your skin with its powerful mix of antioxidants and vitamins.
Looking after your skin while travelling is as important as your everyday skin care routine. With just a bit of planning, you can make those long hours in the air work for you and your skin.
