Clean Beauty - and Why It’s Important

The recent growth in clean beauty is tied to a rise in consumers demand for natural or organic formulations that are ‘free from’ harmful chemicals.

A study done in August of last year by Harris Poll found that nearly 60 percent of over 1,100 women read beauty product ingredient labels prior to purchase, and 54 percent of women claim it’s important for their skin-care products to be all-natural.*

An increasing number of beauty retailers are responding to this demand by promoting full ingredient transparency and banning ingredients like phthalates, formaldehyde and a variety of parabens from all of their beauty products.

Even Sephora has recently launched a "Clean at Sephora" section to help shoppers to identify products free of certain questionable and unwanted ingredients like parabens, sulfates, and phthalates.

What is clean beauty?

Although there is not an official or regulated classification for the term ‘clean beauty’, the essential criteria is understood as products that do not contain ingredients that have been demonstrably linked to harmful health effects. The clean beauty movement embraces both natural and chemical ingredients, putting the focus on safety over source.*

With allergies of all kinds rising faster than ever, the clean beauty movement is more than just a trendy skincare. It's about taking the guesswork out of what you're buying and not having to wait for an allergic reaction to see if the product is suitable for use.*

Why clean beauty is important?

Clean beauty ties the concepts of wellbeing and beauty firmly together. The ultimate beauty is not achieved by attaining a smooth appearance; but instead by nurturing your skin to its healthiest state.

When beauty brands bring these two concepts of raw power and wellbeing together, by combining botanical extracts and green chemistry, they create effective and nourishing formulations that optimise skin’s health and function. There’s no better reason for choosing clean beauty.
