P&G's Patent Application Opens the Door to Skin Care Products with Prebiotic Agent

Consumer marketing companies don’t get much bigger than Procter & Gamble. So the American giant’s patent application for a cosmetic product containing a prebiotic agent is a sure sign that skin care technology is entering a new phase. This is what interested P&G:

A topical cosmetic composition that includes a dermatologically acceptable carrier and an effective amount of a skin commensal prebiotic to improve the health of the skin microbiome, thereby potentially improving the condition and/or appearance of the skin.

This may be one of the first instances of cutting-edge research in microbiome composition reaching the mass market. Expect many more.
